Praetorium Media is looking for a 3D map animator to join our channel team The Hidden States — one of the fastest-growing American geography channels on YouTube. About the project: The Hidden States is a faceless channel making documentaries about America's forgotten regions — the history, the disasters, and the things locals don't talk about. In the first four months: 21,000+ subscribers and 2.8 million views from only 20 videos. The maps aren't decoration on these films. The maps are the film. What you'll be doing: 🗺 Animating 3D maps built on real geographic data — regions drawn along their actual borders 🎥 Camera work across terrain — travelling in over the land, drawing boundaries, lighting a region as it's revealed 📈 Putting history onto the ground where it happened — floods tracing a valley, distances measured across a route, water rising over a town What's important: ✔️ You animate from real boundary data, not by tracing shapes by eye ✔️ Experience with After Effects + GEOlayers, Blender, Cinema 4D or Google Earth Studio ✔️ One map or diagram sequence in your portfolio counts for more than a full showreel What we offer: • A written shot-by-shot storyboard of the introduction as the introduction is where the most important map animations must be done — timings, camera moves, captions, all decided before you start. A completed sample that meets the brief is paid a $50 fee. The test task message As promised, here's the test assignment. This will help us understand your work style and make sure we're on the same page. Task: animate the first 20 seconds of the opening below — shots 1 to 3 of the storyboard. Title: Northern Appalachia Is Hiding Something — Everyone Thinks It's Banjos And Coal Towns Everything you need is written into the storyboard: every shot, its timing, the camera move, and which captions appear where. If you can see a better way to do something, go ahead — we're not limiting your creativity. Deadline: 2 days If anything is unclear, just ask — we're here and happy to help.
